A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus said that God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Mourning means feeling sad because something painful has happened or someone has died. Jesus did not tell people to hide their sadness. He promised that God sees people who grieve and cares for them. Friends and family can also bring comfort by listening, sitting nearby or offering help. Everyone feels sad sometimes, and it is all right to talk with a trusted adult about it. Jesus' words gave hope to people who were grieving. They reminded the crowd that sadness would not be ignored and that comfort could come.
Questions to ask
- Who is sitting beside the child?
- What can you do for someone who feels sad?
- How can Jesus' words bring hope to people who are mourning?
