Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus said that God blesses the gentle, and that they would inherit the earth. Gentle people do not need to push others around to get their way. They can use calm words, listen and make room for someone else. Jesus' words did not mean that a person should stay quiet when someone is hurt. It is right to ask for help and protect people from harm. The crowd could understand gentleness through ordinary actions like taking turns and speaking kindly. We can practise being gentle with people, animals and the world around us.
Questions to ask
- What animal is the child holding?
- How can you show gentleness when you play?
- Why is gentleness different from letting someone be hurt?
