About the story
Jesus sat on a mountainside and taught the crowd with a series of blessings called the Beatitudes. He said that God welcomes people who know they need help, comfort those who are grieving and bless the gentle. He spoke of people who hunger for what is right, show mercy and are pure in heart. Jesus also blessed peacemakers and those who suffer for doing what is right. His words gave hope to people who felt small, sad or left out. They showed the crowd what life in God's kingdom could look like: people caring for one another, choosing goodness and trusting God. Jesus invited his listeners to live these teachings in their everyday choices.
