Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus began the Beatitudes by saying that God blesses the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. He was speaking about people who know they need God and are ready to receive help. It is not about having no money. A person who is humble does not pretend to know everything or do everything alone. Jesus' words gave hope to people who felt small or overlooked. They could trust that God welcomed them. We can ask for help, listen to good advice and remember that everyone needs care sometimes. Jesus taught that God's kingdom belongs to people who turn to him with humble hearts.
Questions to ask
- Where is Jesus sitting?
- What can you do when you need help?
- What does it mean to know that we need God's help?
