Memory verse

“I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 · WEBBE

Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

Jesus compared himself to a vine and his followers to branches. A branch can grow grapes only when it remains joined to the vine. Jesus said his disciples should remain close to him, and he would remain with them. Then their lives could bear fruit. He was not talking only about grapes. He meant the good things that grow when people follow his teaching, such as love, patience and kindness. The disciples knew that a branch cut away from a vine would dry up. Jesus' picture helped them understand why they needed to stay connected to him. We can remember his words when we see grapes growing on a vine.

Questions to ask

  1. What fruit can you see?
  2. Where do grape branches grow?
  3. What kind of good fruit can grow in a person's life when they follow Jesus?
