Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Isaiah shared God's promise with people who were afraid and unsure. God told them not to be afraid, because he was with them. He promised to give them strength, help them and hold them up. The words were spoken to a whole people who needed reassurance, not just to one person.
Children can feel afraid when something is unfamiliar or difficult. A caring adult may walk beside them, hold their hand and help them take one step at a time. Christians also find comfort in talking to God and remembering this promise. Being brave does not mean never feeling scared. It can mean asking for help and continuing with someone trustworthy beside you. Isaiah's words remind readers that God is near and ready to help them through hard moments.
Questions to ask
- Who could hold your hand on a walk?
- What helps you when you feel afraid?
- What is the difference between feeling afraid and asking for help?
