Memory verse
“For I know the thoughts that I think towards you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jeremiah wrote a letter to people from Judah who had been taken far from home to Babylon. They missed their homes and did not know what would happen next. God told them to build lives where they were, care for their families and pray for the place where they lived. He also promised that he had not forgotten them and would give them hope for the future.
This promise belonged to people living through a very difficult time. It did not mean that everything would change right away. It reminded them that their story was not over and that God still cared for them. Children may also have to wait through changes they did not choose. They can talk with a trusted adult and remember that there are people who care for them. Jeremiah's message invites us to keep hope while taking good steps today.
Questions to ask
- Where does the path lead?
- What is something you hope to learn or do?
- How can someone keep hope while waiting for a difficult situation to change?
