Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

Jesus told this story to teach people to pray and not give up. A widow kept coming to a judge and asking him to make things right between her and someone who had wronged her. The judge did not care about God or people, but after a while he decided to help because the widow kept asking. Jesus said that if even an unfair judge finally listened, God would surely hear the people who called out to him. The story was not saying that God is like the judge. It encouraged people to keep praying and trust that God cares about justice. We can ask for help and keep speaking up when something is unfair.

Questions to ask

  1. Who is asking the judge for help?
  2. What does the widow ask the judge to do?
  3. What does Jesus teach about continuing to pray when an answer takes time?
