Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

Jesus asked the people to imagine a neighbour arriving at midnight with an unexpected visitor and no bread to serve. The neighbour went to a friend's house and knocked, asking for three loaves. At first the friend said it was too late to get up. But the person outside kept asking, and the friend finally got up to help. Jesus used the story to teach people to keep asking God for what they need. He reminded them that a good parent gives good things to a child who asks. We can pray honestly and keep bringing our needs to God. We can also be ready to help a neighbour when they ask.

Questions to ask

  1. What is the neighbour carrying?
  2. Why does the neighbour knock on the door?
  3. What does Jesus teach about continuing to pray and ask for help?
