Memory verse
“Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus went up a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came close, and a crowd gathered to listen. Jesus taught about the kind of life God wanted people to live. He spoke about being humble, kind and merciful, making peace and doing what is right. He told his followers to let good actions shine like a lamp. Jesus taught them how to pray, treat others and trust God. The crowd listened to many lessons and stories. His words were clear enough to remember and practise. This teaching on the mountain became known as the Sermon on the Mount.
Questions to ask
- Where is Jesus sitting?
- Who came to listen to Jesus?
- Name one kind of action Jesus taught the people to practise.
