About the story
Paul wrote to the Christians in Ephesus to encourage them to be strong in the Lord. He pictured a person putting on armor to stand firm. The belt represented truth, the breastplate stood for righteousness, and the shoes helped the wearer be ready to share the Good News of peace. Paul also named the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which he called the word of God. He finished by urging the Christians to pray. The armor was a picture to help them remember how to live faithfully, not a call to fight people. Each piece pointed to a way to trust God, choose what is right and bring peace.
