Memory verse
“So the people shouted and the priests blew the trumpets. When the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight in front of him, and they took the city.”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
On the seventh day, the Israelites marched around Jericho seven times. The priests carried the ark of the covenant and blew their trumpets. On the seventh trip, Joshua told the people to shout, because God had given them the city.
The priests blew a long blast on their horns. The people shouted loudly, and the wall fell down flat. The Israelites went into the city, just as God had told Joshua. Rahab and her family were kept safe, because she had helped the spies and tied the scarlet cord in her window.
The people had followed God's instructions day after day. They had waited quietly, marched together, and listened for the trumpet sound. At the right time they shouted. Joshua remembered God's promise and led the people. Jericho's wall had seemed too strong to cross, but God helped the Israelites.
Questions to ask
