Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus told a story about a landowner who hired workers for his vineyard. He went out at several times during the day and invited more people to work. At the end of the day, he paid them all the same amount. The workers who had laboured since morning complained, because those who worked only a short time received the same pay. The landowner reminded them that he had paid them what he promised and could choose to be generous. Jesus used the story to show that God's generosity is not limited by human ideas of who deserves more. We can be glad when others receive good things and remember to treat people fairly.
Questions to ask
- What grows in the vineyard?
- When did the landowner pay the workers?
- Why were the first workers surprised, and what did the landowner say?
