Memory verse
“but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal;”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus warned people not to spend their lives collecting treasures that could be ruined or stolen. Clothes might wear out, and stored goods could be lost. Instead, he told them to store treasure in heaven, where moths, rust and thieves could not destroy it. Jesus said that where a person's treasure is, their heart will be there too. He taught the crowd to value what matters to God. Loving God and caring for people are more lasting than possessions. We can share what we have, help a neighbour and use our gifts well. These actions show what we treasure. Jesus' words helped people think about what they value most.
Questions to ask
- What is the child sharing?
- What kind of treasure lasts longer than things that wear out?
- What do your choices show about what you value most?
